CVE-2021-24180: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The vulnerability (CVE-2021-24180) affects the Related Posts for WordPress plugin versions before 2.0.4. It is a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability discovered on March 15, 2021, that stems from unvalidated input and lack of output encoding within the plugin (WPScan).

The vulnerability exists within the 'lang' GET parameter while editing a post in WordPress admin panel. The issue occurs due to improper validation and output encoding in the file classes/meta-boxes/class-meta-box-manage.php at line 69. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 5.4 (Medium) and is classified as CWE-79 (WPScan).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows attackers to execute malicious JavaScript code in the context of authenticated users' browsers who have the capability to edit posts. This could potentially lead to unauthorized actions or data theft within the WordPress admin panel (WPScan).

The vulnerability can be triggered when users with post editing capabilities access a specially crafted malicious URL. A proof of concept exploit involves accessing the URL: /wp-admin/post.php?post=1&action=edit&lang='><alert(/XSS/) (WPScan).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 2.0.4 of the Related Posts for WordPress plugin. Users are advised to update to this version or later to mitigate the risk (WPScan).
