CVE-2021-25029: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2021-25029 is a Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability discovered in the CLUEVO LMS, E-Learning Platform WordPress plugin versions before 1.8.1. The vulnerability was publicly disclosed on January 10, 2022, and was discovered by security researcher Rutuja D Shirke (WPScan).

The vulnerability stems from improper sanitization and escaping of the Course's module functionality. This security flaw is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation). The vulnerability has received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 4.8 (MEDIUM) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N (NVD).

The vulnerability allows high privilege users to perform Cross-Site Scripting attacks even when the unfiltered_html capability is disallowed. This could potentially lead to unauthorized script execution in the context of other users' browsers (WPScan).

A proof of concept exists for this vulnerability. An attacker can exploit this by navigating to the Learning Management page (/wp-admin/admin.php?page=cluevo-lms), clicking Add Course, and inserting malicious payload in the Insert Module field (WPScan).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 1.8.1 of the CLUEVO LMS plugin. Users are advised to update to this version or later to mitigate the risk (WPScan).
