CVE-2021-25954: 
PHP vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2021-25954 affects Dolibarr application versions 2.8.1 to 13.0.4, where the application incorrectly restricts access to resources from unauthorized actors. This vulnerability was disclosed on August 9, 2021, and impacts the access control mechanisms of the application (WhiteSource DB).

The vulnerability exists in the Private Note functionality at the '/adherents/note.php?id=1' endpoint. The application fails to properly validate user permissions, allowing low-privileged users to modify Private Notes that should only be accessible to administrators. The vulnerability has a CVSS v3.1 base score of 4.3, with Network attack vector, Low attack complexity, Low privileges required, and No user interaction needed (WhiteSource DB).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows low-privileged users to modify Private Notes that are intended to be accessible only to administrators. This represents a breach in the access control mechanism and could lead to unauthorized modification of sensitive administrative information (WhiteSource DB).

The recommended mitigation is to upgrade to Dolibarr version 14.0.0 or later. A fix was implemented that checks for user permissions before allowing modifications to private notes, as evidenced by the code commit that adds a check for user->socid (GitHub Commit).
