CVE-2021-30821: 
macOS vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2021-30821 is a memory corruption vulnerability discovered in Apple's IOGraphics component that affects macOS systems. The vulnerability was reported by Tim Michaud (@TimGMichaud) of Zoom Video Communications and was patched by Apple in October 2021 with the release of macOS Monterey 12.0.1, Security Update 2021-007 Catalina, and macOS Big Sur 11.6.1 (Apple Support, Apple Support, Apple Support).

The vulnerability exists in the IOGraphics component and is characterized as a memory corruption issue. The problem was addressed by Apple through improved memory handling implementation. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.8 (HIGH) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H (NVD).

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow a malicious application to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. This means an attacker could potentially gain complete control over the affected system with the highest level of access (Apple Support).

Apple has addressed this vulnerability in macOS Monterey 12.0.1, Security Update 2021-007 Catalina, and macOS Big Sur 11.6.1. Users are advised to update their systems to these versions or later to protect against this vulnerability (Apple Support, Apple Support, Apple Support).
