Apple Safari vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2021-30953 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability discovered in WebKit, affecting multiple Apple products including tvOS 15.2, macOS Monterey 12.1, Safari 15.2, iOS 15.2, iPadOS 15.2, and watchOS 8.3. The vulnerability was discovered by Jianjun Dai of 360 Vulnerability Research Institute via Tianfu Cup and was fixed in December 2021 (Apple Support).

The vulnerability is classified as an out-of-bounds read issue in WebKit that was addressed with improved bounds checking. It has a CVSS v3.1 base score of 8.8 (HIGH) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H. The vulnerability affects WebKit's processing of maliciously crafted web content (NVD).

When exploited, this vulnerability could lead to arbitrary code execution when processing maliciously crafted web content. This poses a significant security risk as it could allow attackers to execute unauthorized code on affected systems (WebKit Security Advisory).
