An issue was discovered in gpac through 20200801. A stack-buffer-overflow exists in the function DumpRawUIConfig located in odf_dump.c. It allows an attacker to cause code execution (GitHub Issue, CVE Mitre).

Technical details

The vulnerability is a stack buffer overflow that occurs in the DumpRawUIConfig function within odf_dump.c at line 887. The issue manifests when processing certain input files through MP4Box. The vulnerability was discovered using AddressSanitizer, which detected a write operation of size 1 at an out-of-bounds memory location (GitHub Issue).

Impact

The vulnerability allows attackers to cause code execution through specially crafted input files. This could potentially lead to arbitrary code execution in the context of the application (GitHub Issue).

Mitigation and workarounds

Users should upgrade to a version of GPAC newer than the affected version (20200801). The issue was reported and tracked through GitHub issue #1575 (GitHub Issue).
