The vulnerability (CVE-2021-33751) is a Storage Spaces Controller Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability affecting Microsoft Windows systems. The vulnerability was discovered and reported to Microsoft on April 22, 2021, and was publicly disclosed on July 19, 2021 (ZDI Advisory).

The vulnerability exists within the spaceport.sys driver of Microsoft Windows. The specific flaw stems from improper validation of user-supplied data, which can result in an out-of-bounds write past the end of an allocated buffer. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS score of 8.8 (AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H), indicating its high severity (ZDI Advisory).

When successfully exploited, this vulnerability allows attackers to escalate privileges and execute arbitrary code in the context of SYSTEM, effectively gaining complete control over the affected system (ZDI Advisory).
