CVE-2022-1566: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2022-1566 affects the Quotes llama WordPress plugin versions before 1.0.0. The vulnerability was discovered and reported by Benachi, with the issue being publicly disclosed on May 10, 2022. The plugin fails to properly sanitize and escape Quotes functionality, affecting WordPress installations using this plugin (WPScan).

The vulnerability is classified as a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue with a CVSS score of 3.4 (low severity). The vulnerability is tracked as CWE-79 and falls under the OWASP Top 10 category A7: Cross-Site Scripting (XSS). The issue exists because the plugin does not properly sanitize and escape Quotes, allowing for XSS attacks even when unfiltered_html is disallowed (WPScan).

The vulnerability allows high privilege users such as administrators to perform Cross-Site Scripting attacks. Additionally, administrators can be tricked into importing malicious CSV files that contain XSS payloads, which would then be triggered when viewing the Quotes List page (WPScan).

The vulnerability can be exploited in two ways: by creating/editing a quote and inserting XSS payloads in the Quote field and Image URL field, or by importing a malicious CSV file containing XSS payloads in the quote and source fields. The XSS payload gets triggered when accessing the Quotes List page (WPScan).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 1.0.0 of the Quotes llama plugin. Users should update to this version or later to mitigate the risk (WPScan).
