MySQL vulnerability analysis and mitigation

Vulnerability CVE-2022-21379 affects MySQL Server component: Server: Group Replication Plugin in versions 8.0.27 and prior. This is an easily exploitable vulnerability that allows high privileged attackers with network access via multiple protocols to compromise MySQL Server (Oracle CPU Jan 2022, NVD).

The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 Base Score of 4.9 (Medium) with vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H. The vulnerability specifically affects the Group Replication Plugin component of MySQL Server (Oracle CPU Jan 2022, NetApp Advisory).

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized ability to cause a hang or frequently repeatable crash (complete DOS) of MySQL Server (NVD, Oracle CPU Jan 2022).

Oracle has released patches to address this vulnerability in MySQL version 8.0.28. Users are strongly recommended to update to this version or later.
