NixOS vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2022-26469 is a medium severity vulnerability affecting MtkEmail in MediaTek chipsets. The vulnerability was disclosed in September 2022 and involves unsafe reflection due to fragment injection. It affects multiple MediaTek chipset models including MT6580, MT6735, MT6737, and many others running Android 11.0 and 12.0 operating systems (MediaTek Bulletin).

The vulnerability is classified as CWE-470 (Use of Externally-Controlled Input to Select Classes or Code - 'Unsafe Reflection'). The issue occurs in MtkEmail where there is a possible escalation of privilege due to fragment injection. The vulnerability requires no additional execution privileges or user interaction for exploitation (MediaTek Bulletin).

This vulnerability could lead to local escalation of privilege on affected devices. The attacker would not need additional execution privileges to exploit the vulnerability, and user interaction is not required for exploitation (MediaTek Bulletin).

MediaTek has released security patches for the affected devices. Device OEMs were notified of the issues and corresponding security patches at least two months before the public disclosure in September 2022 (MediaTek Bulletin).
