NixOS vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A vulnerability was discovered in Axiomatic Bento4, specifically affecting the AP4File::AP4File function. The issue was reported on September 27, 2022, and was assigned CVE-2022-3810. The vulnerability impacts the core functionality of the Bento4 software, which is a C++ class library and tools designed for handling MP4 files (Bento4 Issue).

The vulnerability manifests in two distinct ways: a memory leak issue in the mp4tag binary and a segmentation fault in the mp42hevc binary. The first bug results in a direct leak of 40 bytes in memory allocation, while the second bug causes a SEGV (segmentation violation) when attempting to read from a null address during stream parsing in the AP4_File::ParseStream function. These issues were confirmed in both the latest branch and release version Bento4-1.6.0-639 (Bento4 Issue).

The vulnerability can lead to memory leaks and potential program crashes. When exploited, it can cause the application to terminate unexpectedly during MP4 file processing operations, potentially affecting the stability and reliability of systems using the Bento4 library (Bento4 Issue).
