PHP vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A vulnerability was discovered in Tribal Systems Zenario CMS 9.3.57595, classified as problematic. The issue relates to session fixation in the authentication system, specifically affecting the session handling mechanism when the 'Remember me' option is active (GitHub Report).

The vulnerability exists in the session management functionality of Zenario CMS, specifically in the '/zenario/admin/welcome.ajax.php' component. The core issue is that the user session identifier (authentication token) is issued to the browser prior to authentication but remains unchanged after user logout and subsequent login when the 'Remember me' option is enabled (GitHub Report).

The vulnerability could allow an attacker to perform session fixation attacks. By failing to issue a new session ID following successful login, an attacker could potentially set up a trap session on the device that the victim is likely to use for login, potentially leading to unauthorized access to user accounts (GitHub Report).

The vulnerability can be exploited by manipulating the session token during the authentication process. A proof of concept has demonstrated that the session remains valid even after logout when the 'Remember me' option is active, allowing potential session fixation attacks (GitHub Report).
