WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in the Apptivo Business Site CRM WordPress plugin versions 3.0.12 and below. The vulnerability was reported on October 31, 2022, and publicly disclosed on November 30, 2022. This security issue affects WordPress installations using the vulnerable plugin versions (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue that requires administrator-level privileges to exploit. It has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 4.8 (Medium) with the following vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability allows authenticated users with admin privileges to inject malicious scripts that can be executed when other users visit the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject scripts that could lead to various attacks including redirects, unwanted advertisements, and other HTML payloads which would be executed when visitors access the affected website. Due to the requirement of administrative privileges, the overall severity is considered low (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 3.0.14 of the Apptivo Business Site CRM plugin. Users are advised to update to version 3.0.14 or later to remove the vulnerability.
