WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

When exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to execute malicious scripts in the context of the victim's browser session. This is particularly concerning as it affects administrative interfaces of WordPress installations running the vulnerable BackupBuddy plugin versions (WPScan).

The vulnerability can be exploited by making a logged-in administrator or super administrator open specifically crafted URLs. Multiple attack vectors exist through various plugin functions including restore_file_view, view_log, and destination_picker (WPScan).

The vulnerability has been fixed in BackupBuddy version 8.8.3. Users are strongly advised to update their BackupBuddy plugin to this version or later to mitigate the risk (WPScan).
