CVE-2023-23668: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in the GiveWP WordPress plugin versions 2.25.1 and below. The vulnerability was reported on January 11, 2023, and was assigned CVE-2023-23668. This security issue affects users with contributor-level access or higher permissions in WordPress installations using the GiveWP donation plugin (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue, identified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation). It received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) from NIST with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack assessed it with a slightly higher score of 6.5 (Medium) (NVD).

The vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website, which would be executed when visitors access the site. The vulnerability was fixed in GiveWP version 2.25.2. Users are advised to update to this version or later to remediate the security issue. For users unable to update immediately, Patchstack has issued a virtual patch to mitigate this issue by blocking potential attacks (Patchstack).
