CVE-2023-23809: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in the Moris Dov Stock market charts from finviz WordPress plugin versions 1.0.1 and below. The vulnerability was reported on January 10, 2023, by Rio Darmawan and was publicly disclosed on February 20, 2023. This security issue affects high-privilege users such as administrators, particularly in multisite setups where the unfiltered_html capability is disabled (Patchstack, WPScan).

The vulnerability stems from improper sanitization and escaping of certain plugin settings. This security flaw is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) and has received varying CVSS scores: NIST assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 4.8 (Medium) with vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack rated it at 5.9 (Medium) with vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L (NVD).

The vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when guests visit the affected site, potentially compromising the security and integrity of the website (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 1.0.2 of the Stock market charts from finviz plugin. Users are advised to update to version 1.0.2 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack users can enable auto-update for vulnerable plugins as an additional security measure (Patchstack).
