CVE-2023-24389: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in the brandiD Social Proof (Testimonial) Slider WordPress plugin versions 2.2.3 and below. The vulnerability was identified on January 21, 2023, and publicly disclosed on March 29, 2023. This security issue affects users with administrator privileges and above, particularly in multisite setups where the unfilteredhtml capability is disallowed ([Patchstack](https://patchstack.com/database/vulnerability/social-proof-testimonials-slider/wordpress-social-proof-testimonial-slider-plugin-2-2-3-cross-site-scripting-xss-vulnerability?s_id=cve), WPScan).

The vulnerability stems from the plugin's failure to properly validate and escape certain parameters, enabling authenticated users with administrative privileges to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks. The issue has been assigned CVE-2023-24389 and is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation). The vulnerability received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 4.8 (Medium) from NVD with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack assessed it at 5.9 (Medium) with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L (NVD).

The vulnerability allows malicious actors with administrative access to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would then be executed when visitors access the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 2.2.4 of the Social Proof (Testimonial) Slider plugin. Users are advised to update to version 2.2.4 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack users can enable auto-update functionality for vulnerable plugins (Patchstack).
