CVE-2023-24393: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in the Sk. Abul Hasan Animated Number Counters WordPress plugin versions 1.6 and below. The vulnerability was initially reported on January 21, 2023, and was publicly disclosed on July 4, 2023. This security issue affects users with editor privileges and above, who could potentially exploit the vulnerability (Patchstack).

The vulnerability stems from the plugin's failure to properly validate and escape certain parameters, enabling users with editor-level access or higher to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.5 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The issue is classified under CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) (WPScan, Patchstack).

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when visitors access the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 1.7 of the Animated Number Counters plugin. Users are advised to update to version 1.7 or later to remediate this security issue. Additionally, Patchstack has issued a virtual patch to mitigate this vulnerability by blocking potential attacks until users can update to the fixed version (Patchstack).
