CVE-2023-27452: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The CVE-2023-27452 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Wow-Company Button Generator – easily Button Builder WordPress plugin versions 2.3.3 and below. The vulnerability was discovered and reported on February 7, 2023, and was publicly disclosed on March 2, 2023 (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue that requires administrator or higher privileges to exploit. It has received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 4.8 (Medium) from NIST with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. Patchstack assigned a slightly higher CVSS score of 5.9 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The vulnerability is tracked under CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) (NVD).

The vulnerability could allow a malicious actor with administrative privileges to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when guests visit the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 2.3.4 of the Button Generator plugin. Users are advised to update to version 2.3.4 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack users can enable auto-update for vulnerable plugins as an additional security measure (Patchstack).
