CVE-2023-29101: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2023-29101 is an unauthenticated Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting Muffingroup's Betheme WordPress theme versions 26.7.5 and below. The vulnerability was discovered and reported by Rafie Muhammad, and was publicly disclosed on April 13, 2023 (Patchstack).

The vulnerability occurs due to improper sanitization and escaping of a parameter before outputting it back in the page. This security flaw has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.1 (High) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The vulnerability is classified under CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) (WPScan).

The vulnerability could be exploited against high-privilege users such as administrators. If successfully exploited, it allows attackers to inject malicious scripts, which could lead to various attacks including redirects, unauthorized advertisements, and execution of other malicious HTML payloads on the affected website (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in Betheme theme version 26.8. Users are advised to update to this version or later to resolve the security issue. Additionally, Patchstack has issued a virtual patch to mitigate this issue by blocking potential attacks until users can update to the fixed version (Patchstack).
