CVE-2023-38743 is a security vulnerability discovered in Zoho ManageEngine ADManager Plus versions before Build 7200. The vulnerability was identified and reported by Nguyen Quoc Viet (Petrus Viet) of VNG Security Researcher (ZDI Advisory, Vendor Advisory).

Technical details

The vulnerability exists within the installServiceWithCredentials function and stems from the lack of proper validation of user-supplied strings before they are used in system calls. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.2 (HIGH) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H (NVD).

Impact

When exploited, this vulnerability allows authenticated users with admin privileges to execute arbitrary commands on the host machine where ADManager Plus is installed (Vendor Advisory).

Mitigation and workarounds

ManageEngine has released a fix for this vulnerability in Build 7200, released on June 13, 2023. Users are advised to update their ADManager Plus instance to the latest build by installing the service pack (Vendor Advisory).
