Adobe Experience Manager vulnerability analysis and mitigation

Adobe Experience Manager versions 6.5.18 and earlier are affected by a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability that was disclosed on December 15, 2023. The vulnerability affects both the standard and cloud service versions of the software (NVD, Adobe Security).

The vulnerability is classified as a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue (CWE-79) with a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) and vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability allows a low-privileged attacker to inject malicious scripts into vulnerable form fields (NVD).

When exploited, malicious JavaScript may be executed in a victim's browser when they browse to the page containing the vulnerable field. This can lead to unauthorized access to sensitive information and potential manipulation of web content within the user's browser session (NVD).

The vulnerability requires a low-privileged attacker to have access to form fields where they can inject malicious scripts. The attack requires user interaction, as victims must browse to the page containing the injected malicious content (NVD).

Adobe has released security updates to address this vulnerability. Users are advised to update to the latest version of Adobe Experience Manager. The fix is available through Adobe's security bulletin APSB23-72 (Adobe Security).
