A Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in Grocy version 4.0.3 and earlier, affecting the recipe preparation component within /api/objects/recipes and note component within /api/objects/shopping_lists/. The vulnerability was identified on November 11, 2023, and allows attackers to obtain victim's cookies (NVD, Advisory).

Technical details

The vulnerability exists in the shopping list component of Grocy where malicious scripts can be injected through notes. When a victim visits the recipes page, the injected script executes automatically without requiring any user interaction. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (MEDIUM) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N (NVD).

Impact

Mitigation and workarounds

The vulnerability affects Grocy versions 4.0.3 and earlier. Users should upgrade to a newer version of Grocy that contains the security fix (Github).
