CVE-2023-50822: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in Currency.Wiki Currency Converter Widget – Exchange Rates WordPress plugin, tracked as CVE-2023-50822. The vulnerability affects versions up to and including 3.0.2, and was discovered by Ngô Thiên An (ancorn_) from VNPT-VCI. The issue was reported on September 30, 2023, and publicly disclosed on December 19, 2023 (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as an Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (CWE-79), allowing for Stored Cross-Site Scripting via shortcode. The vulnerability has received multiple CVSS scores: NIST assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack rated it at 6.5 (Medium) with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L (NVD).

This vulnerability could allow a malicious actor to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when guests visit the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 3.0.3 of the Currency Converter Widget plugin. Users are advised to update to version 3.0.3 or later to remove the vulnerability (Patchstack).
