CVE-2023-51374: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The vulnerability (CVE-2023-51374) is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue discovered in the ZeroBounce Email Verification & Validation WordPress plugin, affecting versions up to and including 1.0.11. The vulnerability was initially reported by DoYeon Park (p6rkdoye0n) on August 27, 2023, and was publicly disclosed on December 26, 2023. This security flaw specifically affects WordPress installations where unfiltered_html has been disabled or in multi-site installations (WPScan).

The vulnerability is classified as an Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (CWE-79) issue. It received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 4.8 (MEDIUM) from NIST with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack assessed it at 5.9 (MEDIUM) with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The vulnerability stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the plugin's admin settings (NVD, Patchstack).

The vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with administrator-level permissions to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever a user accesses an affected page. This could potentially lead to the injection of malicious scripts, including redirects and unauthorized advertisements, which would be executed when visitors access the site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 1.0.12 of the ZeroBounce Email Verification & Validation plugin. Users are advised to update to version 1.0.12 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack users can enable auto-update for vulnerable plugins as an additional security measure (Patchstack).
