CVE-2023-51691: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in gVectors Team Comments – wpDiscuz plugin affecting versions through 7.6.12. The vulnerability was identified and reported on December 27, 2023, and was assigned CVE-2023-51691 (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as an Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (Cross-site Scripting) issue. It received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 4.8 (MEDIUM) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability allows high privilege users such as administrators to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks even when the unfiltered_html capability is disallowed, such as in multisite setups (WPScan).

The vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website, which would be executed when guests visit the site. The severity is considered medium to low, with a requirement for high privileges to exploit (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 7.6.13 of the wpDiscuz plugin. Users are advised to update to version 7.6.13 or later to remove the vulnerability (Patchstack).
