CVE-2023-52124: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in ShapedPlugin LLC's WP Tabs – Responsive Tabs Plugin for WordPress, identified as CVE-2023-52124. The vulnerability affects all versions up to and including 2.2.0. The issue was initially reported on October 31, 2023, and was publicly disclosed on December 28, 2023 (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as an Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (CWE-79). It received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (MEDIUM) from NIST with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack assigned it a slightly higher score of 6.5 (MEDIUM) with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L (NVD).

The vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website, which will be executed when visitors access the site. The attack requires user interaction and can potentially lead to the compromise of sensitive data or manipulation of website content (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 2.2.1 of the WP Tabs plugin. Users are advised to update to version 2.2.1 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack users have the option to enable auto-updates for vulnerable plugins (Patchstack).
