WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Insert or Embed Articulate Content into WordPress plugin through version 4.3000000023 contains a vulnerability identified as CVE-2024-0756. The vulnerability was discovered by Dmitrii Ignatyev and was publicly disclosed on May 14, 2024. This security issue affects WordPress installations using the vulnerable plugin versions (WPScan).

The vulnerability stems from insufficient URL validation when adding iframes to WordPress pages. This lack of proper validation allows for iframe injection, enabling the loading of arbitrary content from any external page. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS score of 2.4 (low) and is classified as a Content Injection type vulnerability under the OWASP Top 10 category A1: Injection and CWE-345 (WPScan).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows attackers to inject an iFrame into the page and load arbitrary content from any external source. This could potentially lead to the display of malicious or unauthorized content within the legitimate WordPress site (WPScan).

The vulnerability can be exploited by creating a new post, adding an e-Learning block with a zip file, selecting the 'Insert As: Iframe' option, and intercepting the POST request to modify the src attribute to point to an external URL.
