CVE-2024-10080: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The WP Easy Post Types plugin for WordPress contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CVE-2024-10080) affecting versions up to and including 1.4.4. The vulnerability was discovered by István Márton from Wordfence and publicly disclosed on October 17, 2024 (Wordfence Advisory).

The vulnerability stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes in post meta data. The issue has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.4 (Medium) by Wordfence with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while NIST assigned a score of 5.4 (Medium) with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) (NVD).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level permissions or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever a user accesses the compromised page (NVD).

The vulnerability requires an authenticated user with at least contributor-level permissions to exploit. The attack can be initiated remotely and requires low attack complexity (NVD).

Users should upgrade to a version newer than 1.4.4 when available. The vulnerability has been identified in the source code at custom-type.php (WordPress Plugin).
