CVE-2024-11533: 
IrfanView vulnerability analysis and mitigation

IrfanView DXF File Parsing Out-Of-Bounds Write Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (CVE-2024-11533) was discovered affecting IrfanView installations. The vulnerability was disclosed on November 21, 2024, and affects IrfanView version 4.67 for both x64 and x86 architectures (ZDI Advisory, NVD).

The vulnerability exists within the parsing of DXF files and stems from improper validation of user-supplied data, which can result in a write past the end of an allocated buffer. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.8 (HIGH) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H. The issue has been classified as CWE-787 (Out-of-bounds Write) (ZDI Advisory, NVD).

A successful exploitation of this vulnerability allows attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current process. The vulnerability requires user interaction, specifically the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file (ZDI Advisory).
