CVE-2024-12308: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Logo Slider WordPress plugin before version 4.6.0 contains a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability identified as CVE-2024-12308. The vulnerability was discovered by researcher Dmitrii Ignatyev and publicly disclosed on February 3, 2025 (WPScan).

The vulnerability stems from improper validation and escaping of shortcode attributes before they are output back in pages or posts where the shortcode is embedded. This security flaw has been assigned a CVSS score of 5.9 (medium severity) and is classified under CWE-79. The issue affects users with contributor-level permissions and above (WPScan).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows authenticated users with contributor role or higher privileges to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks. This could potentially lead to client-side code execution in the context of other users' browsers who view the affected pages (WPScan).

The vulnerability can be exploited by creating a new Logo Slider shortcode and manipulating the 'lgx_carousel_transition_speed' parameter with malicious JavaScript code. The attack is triggered when users hover over the affected carousel element (WPScan).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 4.6.0 of the Logo Slider WordPress plugin. Site administrators are advised to update to this version or later to mitigate the security risk (WPScan).
