CVE-2024-13527: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Philantro – Donations and Donor Management plugin for WordPress contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CVE-2024-13527) discovered in January 2025. The vulnerability affects all versions up to and including 5.3 of the plugin. This security issue stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes in the plugin's shortcodes, particularly the 'donate' shortcode (NVD).

The vulnerability is classified as a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (CWE-79) issue. It received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) from NIST with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Wordfence assigned a slightly higher score of 6.4 (Medium) with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N (NVD).

The vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever a user accesses the compromised page, potentially leading to data theft, session hijacking, or other client-side attacks (NVD).

A patch has been released to address this vulnerability. Users should upgrade their Philantro plugin to version 5.4 or later to protect against this security issue (WordPress Patch).
