CVE-2024-13577: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The CATS Job Listings plugin for WordPress contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CVE-2024-13577) in all versions up to and including 2.0.9. The vulnerability was discovered and reported by Peter Thaleikis, with initial disclosure on February 17, 2025 (Wordfence, NVD).

The vulnerability exists in the plugin's 'catsone' shortcode due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes. The severity is rated as MEDIUM with a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N) according to NVD, while Wordfence rates it at 6.4 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N). The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) (NVD).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever a user accesses the compromised page (NVD).

Users should update to a version newer than 2.0.9 when available. Until then, it is recommended to restrict access to the plugin's functionality to trusted users only (NVD).
