WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Hubbub Lite WordPress plugin before version 1.33.1 contains a security vulnerability that exposes password-protected post content through meta tags. This vulnerability was discovered and publicly disclosed on March 11, 2024 (WPScan Details, NVD Database).

The vulnerability stems from the plugin's failure to properly authenticate user access to password-protected posts before displaying their content in meta tags. The vulnerability allows unauthorized users to access the content of password-protected posts by viewing the page source code, effectively bypassing the password protection mechanism.
