CVE-2024-1951
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

Overview

The Logo Showcase Ultimate – Logo Carousel, Logo Slider & Logo Grid plugin for WordPress contains a PHP Object Injection vulnerability (CVE-2024-1951) affecting all versions up to and including 1.3.8. The vulnerability was discovered in March 2024 and received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.5 (High) (Wordfence).

Technical details

The vulnerability stems from improper handling of deserialization via shortcode of untrusted input. This security flaw allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject PHP Objects into the application. While no POP (Property-Oriented Programming) chain is present in the vulnerable plugin itself, the presence of a POP chain through additional plugins or themes could enable exploitation (NVD).

Impact

If successfully exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to delete arbitrary files, retrieve sensitive data, or execute code on the target system, particularly when combined with a POP chain from other installed plugins or themes (NVD).

Mitigation and workarounds

Users should update to version 1.3.9 or later of the Logo Showcase Ultimate plugin to address this vulnerability (WordPress).
