CVE-2024-23516: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in Calculators World CC BMI Calculator WordPress plugin affecting versions up to 2.0.1. The vulnerability was reported on September 28, 2023, and publicly disclosed on January 30, 2024 (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) with a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (MEDIUM) according to NIST, and 6.5 (MEDIUM) according to Patchstack. The CVSS vector string is CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, indicating network accessibility, low attack complexity, and required user interaction (NVD).

The vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website, which would be executed when guests visit the site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 2.1.0 of the CC BMI Calculator plugin. Users are advised to update to version 2.1.0 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack has also issued a virtual patch to mitigate this issue by blocking any attacks until users update to a fixed version (Patchstack).
