CVE-2024-3492: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Events Manager – Calendar, Bookings, Tickets, and more! plugin for WordPress contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CVE-2024-3492) affecting versions up to and including 6.4.7.3. The vulnerability was discovered in June 2024 and affects the plugin's 'event', 'location', and 'event_category' shortcodes (NVD).

The vulnerability stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes in the plugin's shortcodes. The issue has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (NVD).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever a user accesses the compromised page, potentially leading to theft of sensitive information or manipulation of page content (NVD).

The vulnerability requires an authenticated user with at least contributor-level access to exploit. The attacker must have the ability to create or edit events, locations, or event categories within the WordPress installation (NVD).

A patch has been released to address this vulnerability. Site administrators are advised to update their Events Manager plugin to a version newer than 6.4.7.3 (Wordpress Patch).
