CVE-2024-3603: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The OSM – OpenStreetMap plugin for WordPress contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CVE-2024-3603) affecting all versions up to and including 6.0.2. The vulnerability was discovered and disclosed on July 9, 2024 (NVD, Wordfence).

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes such as 'theme' in the plugin's 'osm_map' shortcode. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) by NVD with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Wordfence assigned it a score of 6.4 (Medium) with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N (NVD).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever a user accesses the compromised page (NVD).

The vulnerability requires an authenticated user with at least contributor-level privileges to exploit. The attacker needs to have access to create or edit pages/posts containing the 'osm_map' shortcode (NVD).

Users should update to a version newer than 6.0.2 when available. The vulnerability affects all versions up to and including 6.0.2 (NVD).
