CVE-2024-37553: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in the Axelerant Testimonials Widget WordPress plugin, affecting versions up to 4.0.4. The vulnerability was reported on March 24, 2024, and publicly disclosed on July 6, 2024. This security issue allows for Stored XSS attacks in the plugin's functionality (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as an Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (CWE-79) issue. It received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) from NIST with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack assigned it a slightly higher score of 6.5 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The vulnerability requires contributor-level privileges to exploit (NVD).

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when visitors access the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability requires an authenticated user with at least Contributor-level access to exploit. Patchstack has classified this as a low-priority issue that is unlikely to be exploited (Patchstack).

Currently, there is no official fix available for this vulnerability. The issue affects versions up to and including 4.0.4 of the Testimonials Widget plugin (Patchstack).
