CVE-2024-4383: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Simple Membership plugin for WordPress (CVE-2024-4383) contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability in the plugin's 'swpm_paypal_subscription_cancel_link' shortcode affecting all versions up to and including 4.4.5. The vulnerability stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes (NVD).

The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) by NIST with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Wordfence assigned a score of 6.4 (Medium) with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (NVD).

The vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever a user accesses the compromised page (NVD).

The vulnerability requires authentication with at least contributor-level access to exploit. The attack vector is network-accessible, requires low attack complexity, and needs low privileges to execute (NVD).

Users should upgrade to version 4.4.6 or later of the Simple Membership plugin to address this vulnerability. A patch has been made available to fix the insufficient input sanitization and output escaping issues (Wordfence).
