CVE-2024-4711: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The WordPress Infinite Scroll – Ajax Load More plugin for WordPress was identified with a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CVE-2024-4711) affecting versions up to and including 7.1.1. The vulnerability was discovered and disclosed on May 31, 2024, impacting the ajax_load_more shortcode functionality (NVD).

The vulnerability stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the ajax_load_more shortcode implementation. The issue has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) by NIST with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Wordfence assigned a slightly higher score of 6.4 (Medium) with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (NVD).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level permissions or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever a user accesses the compromised page, potentially leading to unauthorized data access or manipulation of user interactions (NVD).

The vulnerability requires an authenticated user with at least contributor-level permissions to exploit. The attack vector is network-accessible (AV:N) with low attack complexity (AC:L) and requires low privileges (PR:L) (NVD).

Users are advised to update to version 7.1.2 or later of the WordPress Infinite Scroll – Ajax Load More plugin, which contains patches addressing this vulnerability. The fix includes improved input sanitization and output escaping mechanisms (Wordfence Advisory).
