SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP vulnerability analysis and mitigation

SAP NetWeaver Application Server for ABAP and ABAP Platform contains a vulnerability that allows an authenticated attacker to gain higher access levels than intended through improper authorization checks, resulting in privilege escalation. The vulnerability was disclosed on December 9, 2024 (NVD).

The vulnerability stems from a flaw where authorizations for import and export operations are not properly distinguished, with a single authorization being applied for both operations. This improper authorization check mechanism has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 4.3 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N (NVD).
