CVE-2024-49309: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability has been identified in the WordPress Digitally theme, affecting versions up to and including 1.0.8. The vulnerability was discovered by researcher akas wisnu aji and was publicly disclosed on October 15, 2024. This security flaw stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the theme's functionality (WPScan, Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) and has received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.1 (HIGH) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages that will execute when users perform specific actions, such as clicking on a malicious link (NVD, Patchstack).

The vulnerability enables malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts will be executed when visitors access the affected site. The software is considered likely abandoned, as it hasn't received updates for over a year, increasing the potential security risks (Patchstack).

Currently, there is no official fix available for this vulnerability. Patchstack has issued a virtual patch to mitigate the issue by blocking potential attacks until an official fix becomes available. The recommended course of action is to either implement the Patchstack virtual patch or remove and replace the theme entirely, as it appears to be abandoned (Patchstack).
