CVE-2025-21334 is an Elevation of Privilege (EoP) vulnerability affecting the Windows Hyper-V NT Kernel Integration Virtualization Service Provider (VSP). The vulnerability was disclosed and patched as part of Microsoft's January 2025 Patch Tuesday update, which was the largest Patch Tuesday update ever from Microsoft. The vulnerability received a CVSSv3 score of 7.8 and was rated as Important (Tenable Blog).

The vulnerability exists in the Windows Hyper-V NT Kernel Integration VSP, which resides in the root partition of a Hyper-V instance and provides synthetic device support to child partitions over the Virtual Machine Bus (VMBus). The VSP is fundamental to how Hyper-V allows the child partition to simulate being a real computer. The vulnerability requires an authenticated, local attacker to exploit and could result in SYSTEM privilege elevation (Hacker News).

A successful exploitation of this vulnerability allows an authenticated attacker to elevate their privileges to SYSTEM level on the affected system. Given that the VSP is a security boundary in Hyper-V, this vulnerability represents a significant security risk for virtualized environments (Tenable Blog).
