WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability has been identified in Gold Plugins Easy FAQs plugin versions through 3.2.1. The vulnerability was discovered by SOPROBRO and publicly disclosed on January 16, 2025 (Patchstack, NVD).

The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting'). It has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.5 (Medium) with the following vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L (Patchstack).

This vulnerability could allow a malicious actor to inject malicious scripts, such as redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website which will be executed when guests visit the site. The attack requires user interaction and has low confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts (Patchstack).

The vulnerability requires an authenticated user with Contributor level privileges or higher to exploit. The attack complexity is low, but requires user interaction for successful exploitation (Patchstack).

Currently, there is no official fix available for this vulnerability. The issue affects versions through 3.2.1 of the Easy FAQs plugin (Patchstack).
