WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in bPlugins Info Cards – Gutenberg block for creating Beautiful Cards, affecting versions through 1.0.5. The vulnerability was reported on January 18, 2025, and publicly disclosed on February 23, 2025. This security issue allows for Stored XSS attacks and requires Contributor or higher privileges to exploit (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) and has received a CVSS v3.1 Base Score of 6.5 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. This indicates that the vulnerability requires network access, low attack complexity, low privileges, and user interaction to exploit (NVD).

The vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when guests visit the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 1.0.6 of the Info Cards plugin. Users are advised to update to version 1.0.6 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack users have the additional option to enable auto-update for vulnerable plugins (Patchstack).
