WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Easy Form by AYS WordPress plugin contains a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in versions up to and including 2.6.9. The vulnerability was discovered on February 8, 2025, and publicly disclosed on February 21, 2025. This security issue affects all installations of the Easy Form by AYS plugin running versions 2.6.9 and below (Patchstack, WPScan).

The vulnerability is classified as a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. It has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 score of 6.1 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability is tracked as CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (WPScan).

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts that execute when users perform specific actions, such as clicking on a malicious link. The successful exploitation could lead to the execution of malicious JavaScript code in the context of other users' browsers, potentially leading to session hijacking, defacement, or theft of sensitive information (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 2.7.0 of the Easy Form by AYS plugin. Users are strongly advised to update to this version or later to resolve the security issue. For users unable to update immediately, Patchstack has issued a virtual patch to mitigate this issue by blocking potential attacks (Patchstack).
