WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The tagDiv Composer plugin for WordPress, used by the Newspaper theme, is vulnerable to Reflected Cross-Site Scripting via the 'accountid' and 'accountusername' parameters in all versions up to, and including, 5.3. The vulnerability was disclosed on March 28, 2025, and affects websites using the tagDiv Composer plugin with the Newspaper theme (NVD Database).

The vulnerability stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the tagDiv Composer plugin. The affected parameters are 'accountid' and 'accountusername', which can be manipulated to inject malicious scripts. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 Base Score of 6.1 (MEDIUM) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. If successfully exploited, this vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts that execute when users perform specific actions, such as clicking on a malicious link.
