Technical details

The conf field is used as a loop index and is referenced in the amixer_index() and sum_index() callbacks; without correct initialization, the index can reach value 8, which is out of range for the unsigned char [8] array, triggering a UBSAN-detected array-index-out-of-bounds condition. Exploitation requires local access with low privileges and no user interaction. The fix adds proper initializations of the loop indices to prevent the OOB access (Feedly, Kernel Patch).

Administrators should update to a patched kernel version as soon as possible; no configuration-based workaround is available other than restricting local user access to systems with the ctxfi audio driver loaded (Feedly, Ubuntu USN-8180).
