CVE-2019-25011: 
NixOS vulnerability analysis and mitigation

NetBox through version 2.6.2 contains a Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability that allows an authenticated user to conduct an XSS attack against an administrator via a GFM-rendered field, specifically demonstrated through the /dcim/sites/add/ comments parameter. The vulnerability was discovered on August 31, 2019, by Claudio Cinquino (Cinquino Report, GitHub Issue).

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient filtration of user-supplied input in GFM-rendered fields. The attack vector involves exploiting the 'comments' parameter that is present across multiple pages in the application. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N (NVD).

The successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an authenticated user to execute arbitrary JavaScript code in the context of an administrator's browser session, potentially leading to unauthorized access to sensitive information or performing actions with elevated privileges (NVD).

The vulnerability requires authentication to exploit, as the attacker must have valid credentials to access the affected functionality. A proof of concept exploit has been publicly documented, demonstrating the attack through the /dcim/sites/add/ endpoint using a multipart/form-data POST request (Cinquino Report).

The vulnerability was reported to the vendor on September 3, 2019, and was fixed by October 9, 2019. Users should upgrade to a version of NetBox released after this date to receive the security fix (Cinquino Report).
